| Scouting report: Hamilton Township Rangers
By Spencer Waugh
Logan Daily News
OBETZ — For the second straight season, Logan will visit Hamilton Township
— and, much like last year, coach Bob Jacoby’s squad will feature a triple-option
offensive attack highlighted by fast, talented running backs.
Jacoby, formerly of DeSales, has finished .500 in each of his first
two seasons at Hamilton Township. This fall, his squad is 0-2 with losses
against Chillicothe (17-9) and London (41-16).
The Rangers led 9-7 against Chillicothe before a lightning delay allowed
the Cavaliers to re-group for a comeback victory. London ran over and around
the Rangers thanks to an influx of transfers from the South-Western School
District.
Josh Frakes (5-8, 170, junior) will start at quarterback for Hamilton,
although expect him to run much more than pass. The Rangers didn’t complete
a pass last week against London. Justin Smith (5-9, 190, junior) could
also see time under center.
Chris Settles (6-1, 240, junior) is a bruising fullback who has the
ability to drag tacklers for extra yardage. Rayshawn Justice (6-1, 175,
senior) is a threat on the edge and as a receiver from his halfback spot.
Smith, who scored twice last week, is the third running back and Tommy
Welch (5-9, 155, junior) adds depth in the backfield.
Top receiving threats in addition to Justice are split ends Dominic
Gray (6-2, 175, senior) and Welch along with tight end Daryle Moore (6-2,
180, senior).
Up front, the Rangers are led by four returning starters. Guard Alonzo
Burley (6-2, 245, senior) is the anchor and T.J. Morrison (6-2, 238, sophomore)
is the center. Jacob LeMaster (6-2, 250, junior), Cody Frazier (5-11, 220,
junior), Tyler Kirkpatrick (6-0, 214, senior), and Mitch Horlocker (6-1,
190, junior) are the other offensive linemen likely to see time for Hamilton
Township.
Defensively, the Rangers will use their speed and athleticism to get
after the quarterback and contain receivers and running backs. Burley leads
the defensive line and will play along side Kirkpatrick, Frazier, LeMaster,
and Morrison.
The linebacking unit is athletic with Frakes and Smith playing on the
outside and Settles and Horlocker on the inside.
Welch and Gray are the cornerbacks with Justice moving to safety.
A freshman, Caleb Crumley (5-10, 135) handles the kicking duties for
the green and gold.
